Amnesty International a appelé mardi le gouvernement du Royaume‑Uni à mettre fin à son soutien militaire aux États‑Unis dans le conflit qui s’intensifie avec l’Iran, et plus précisément à retirer l’accès des forces américaines aux bases militaires britanniques, affirmant que les récentes menaces proférées par des dirigeants américains exposent gravement les civils à des risques extrêmes.
Dans un communiqué de presse, Kristyan Benedict, directeur de la réponse aux crises pour Amnesty International du Royaume-Uni, a déclaré que la situation « est un moment de danger extrême pour les civils en Iran et dans toute la région ».
En se référant aux commentaires faits aujourd’hui par le président américain Trump, il a averti que les propos de dirigeants politiques américains selon lesquels « une civilisation entière mourra ce soir » reflètent un « langage génocidaire » et que le Royaume‑Uni doit « mettre d’urgence fin au soutien militaire aux États‑Unis qui pourrait permettre des crimes en droit international, y compris des crimes de guerre ».
« Une frappe américaine a déjà tué plus de 168 personnes, dont plus de 100 enfants, dans une école à Minab, en Iran. Des ponts et des infrastructures énergétiques sont bombardés. La décision de permettre aux États‑Unis d’utiliser des bases militaires britanniques n’existe pas dans le vide, elle implique de lourdes responsabilités en matière de droits humains », a‑t‑il ajouté.
« Amnesty International est catégorique : menacer de détruire systématiquement des infrastructures civiles est une menace de commettre des crimes de guerre », a déclaré Benedict. « Attaquer des centrales électriques essentielles à la survie de dizaines de millions de civils serait illégal. Le Royaume‑Uni doit être tout aussi catégorique. »
Trump a menacé de bombarder des centrales électriques et des ponts à travers l’Iran si Téhéran ne rouvrait pas le détroit d’Ormuz et n’atteignait pas un accord d’ici mardi soir à 20 h (00 h GMT mercredi).
La région est en état d’alerte depuis qu’Israël et les États‑Unis ont lancé une offensive contre l’Iran le 28 février, tuant plus de 1 400 personnes, y compris l’ancien guide suprême l’ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Téhéran a riposté par des frappes de drones et de missiles ciblant Israël, la Jordanie, l’Irak et des pays du Golfe abritant des forces militaires américaines, provoquant des pertes humaines, des dommages aux infrastructures et perturbant les marchés mondiaux et l’aviation.
